If your kid likes animals like mine then you need to take them to Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Or as Bubba calls it “Mickey’s Farm!” We first went a few weeks after he turned 1 and I have been planning to take him again but was looking for the perfect day. The first trip was at the end of August so as you can imagine, it was a little warm and humid. This trip we managed to pick a beautiful cool cloudy day in October.
Bubba has always loved animals. I think his first word was a roar! He would roar like a lion on command. Now his favorite are hippos. I think this has something to do with the Belly Button Book.
On our first trip we were with a large family group so we did more older kid appropriate rides. This trip was just Bubba and I so I made sure to do more visual things. We would stop and look at animals along the trail to the Pangani Forest Exploration Trail and Kilimanjaro Safaris. Who knew he would love flamingos!
If you want to get the most out of Animal Kingdom for your little mouseketeer, then check out Wilderness Explorers. We checked in and picked up our guide book and started collecting badge stickers. I picked up one for him (to play with) and one for me to keep for future visits. It was really exciting to get to a check in station and have them explain about the animals or their habits. And Bubba loves attention from anyone so this gave him ample opportunities to introduce himself. Which is his favorite thing to do right now!
Our favorite part of the trip was the Kilimanjaro Safari. We had walked through a gift shop to kill a little time until our FastPass time. I was looking for a t-shirt for me and a little something for him. Of course Disney only had stuffed hippos that are about as big as Bubba. When he squealed with delight, I knew I was going to have to buy it! And he carried that thing around the rest of the day…even on the safari ride.
I kept telling Bubba all day long that “Mickey’s Farm” had wild animals like lions, giraffe, monkeys, etc. And that we wouldn’t find horses, cows or chickens here. So as we are on the safari ride, the guide points out the two African Cows sitting in the field. Bubba looks at me and says “See mom, cows!” Thank you Mickey for proving me wrong!
All in all it was a great day! Animal Kingdom is to me a lot like Epcot. Geared more toward adults but with really neat educational things for little mousketeers! Can’t wait for our next trip to explore some more…
