Last week my husband let me know on Saturday that he had a conference he had to attend in Orlando. And the conference was that very next Tuesday. Anyone up for a day trip to Disney World?? So of course I worded my response in a question and a way that he couldn’t say no for us to tag along.
Me: You wouldn’t mind if Bubba and I tagged along right? I mean since we have an annual pass to Disney and we want to get the most out of our money right??? Hubby: No I guess it would be ok, but I won’t even be in Orlando 24 hours. Me: Not a problem, I don’t need 24 hours at Disney!
Bubba was so excited about going to see Mickey Mouse! I think he thought the mouse was going to great us at the hotel. As we arrived to the hotel at midnight, luckily there weren’t many people in the lobby because he was running around asking “We go to Mickey’s castle now??” Of course my response was “Mickey Mouse is already asleep tonight, so we need to get to bed and we will go see Mickey Mouse first thing in the morning.” Not what Bubba wanted to hear!
He didn’t fall asleep until sometime after 1am. Then he proceeded to try and push my husband off the bed all night long. I am not sure what time my husband’s alarm went off the next morning but it was way too early. And I have never moved so fast to shut it off before it woke up Bubba! Luckily he slept until 8-8:30 and we were on our way to Disney World sometime around 10am.
This is probably the most unorganized trip I have ever taken to Disney World. First, I forgot our stroller, that’s right the one I bought specifically for our Disney trips. I purchased this stroller for our first trip to Disney and it is perfect except for the way it folds up. A traditional umbrella stroller is much more practical getting on and off the trams, but the backs don’t lay down and there is no basket or tray. I love this stroller, but you can also find one like it here if you don’t have a Babies R Us near you.
So for the first time, I rented a stroller as soon as we walked into Magic Kingdom. Not cheap, but I would have paid $15 for an umbrella stroller at Walmart and it was nice to turn it in at the end of the day and not have to drag it around on the tram to our car.
Bubba was excited so we went straight to stand in line to see Mickey Mouse. I parked my stroller and we headed inside. When we went through the door and he could see Mickey he kept talking loudly to him. “Hi Mickey Mouse, come here Mickey!!” Everyone thought it was cute and luckily he was cute too.
One small tip I learned on this day trip was to take a card and write your name on it so you know which stroller is yours. Seems like something I should have thought of, but of course I a little sleep deprived at this point. So we came out of the character greeting and I went straight to where I had left our rental. And it wasn’t there! I immediately ran up to one of the cast members and said “Someone took my stroller!” She pointed me to an area where there was a stroller with no name on it. Yep it was mine. And then said I should go back to where I picked up the stroller and write my name on a card. Now picture me with a nice bright red face and no it was not from the heat!
Sheepishly I reclaimed our stroller and properly put our name on it. Then we took advantage of a freebie that was recently mentioned to me. Next we headed over to the Confectionary store and got a free sample. Some vanilla cake with marshmallow sugar frosting…YUMMY!! And I needed that nice little sugar high at this point!
I wanted to take it easy on this day trip to Disney. I normally try to pack everything in or have a list of must do’s. We have been a lot over the last two years but Bubba has never met Minnie Mouse. And this little boy loves him some Minnie Mouse! So that was the only thing I really wanted to do this trip. Oh I also wanted to see the new Princess Fairytale Hall! We only rode a couple of rides this trip and one was the Carousel and we rode it twice. He loved the horses!
We did get to meet Cinderella and Princess Aurora (Sleeping Beauty) but that was more for me than Bubba. Although Bubba and I both thought that Cinderella looked like his babysitter Alisa, in fact he called her Alisa. Lucky boy to have Cinderella as your babysitter…at least that is what my hubby said!
We watched one last parade and was ready to leave by 3:30-4pm. Hubby was expecting us to be back at the hotel to pick up him up between 4:30-5pm. Finally one last tip, always make sure you hit the Baby Care Center on your exit. They have nice padded changing tables, air conditioning and there is rarely a line.
It wasn’t one of my best organized trips. But at least it was just a day trip. Thanks to this trip I realized just how little I needed to bring into the park with me. I think for this trip I had two diapers, wipes, travel fork/spoon set, disposable sippy cup, some snacks, change of clothes for Bubba and my wallet. I did forget my Minnie Mouse backpack so I used my son’s backpack that was a little too small. But we made do and he is still talking about going to Mickey’s castle a week later!
Lucky boy, little does he know that we are going back next week!!
