Well, I am the first to admit that if you don’t properly train for a race, then you shouldn’t overdo it. And I knew this going into the Princess Half Marathon. I knew that I had not put in the time or the effort I should have. I also knew that I could finish the Princess Half Marathon but I would have to walk it and not try and run no matter how good I felt on the course. Thank goodness I listened to my own advice, well sort of!
The hubby and I headed down to Orlando the Thursday before the 2015 Wine and Dine Weekend. We checked into the beautiful Caribbean Beach Resort on the Walt Disney World property for a three-night stay. I have stayed at this resort but only for one night. I felt I needed to experience this resort more before I would recommend it to others.
Well, I guess if I get this post out before the 2016 Wine and Dine Half Marathon, I am ahead of the game. Yipee!!
You have probably heard a lot about this race, it caused quite a stir in the running community. But here is my rendition of what went down. Even with all of the issues, it was still a fun race and most of the people running had a great time! Some people aren’t calling this the Wine and Dine Half Marathon, but the Whine & Dine Half Half Marathon.
When I started running, I just walked into my local sports store and tried on a few pairs. I ended up with a cute little pair of Asics and trained for my first 5k. I continued to have shin splint issues but just figured that was always going to be an issue from an old soccer injury. That was my first mistake. My second mistake I didn’t realize I was making was that the shoes I had bought were half a size too small. After speaking with a few people (runners), they asked me when the last time I was fitted for a pair of shoes. Guys, did you know this is a whole ordeal and can be life changing if you are a runner!!
A few weeks ago I freaked out because I couldn’t remember if I had submitted my proof of time to runDisney for the Wine & Dine Half Marathon. So I sent them an email and hoped for the best. Luckily I got an email back from them and I had submitted a proof of time and it was a good one from my 10K at runDisney’s Marathon Weekend.
One of the Facebook groups that I am a part of announced that someone had figured out the back door to the waivers page and I could find out my bib number. I think they are fully up on the runDisney website so all of this is public information now. Click here if you haven’t gotten your bib number yet!
So I have been looking forward to running runDisney’s Wine & Dine Half Marathon all year. If you are a night person like me, then this is a race that you should consider. But do it quickly! There are rumors that this race might not be around too much longer. I knew I had to sign up for it because when will you have a chance to partake in both a runDisney event and Epcot’s Food & Wine Festival. I am not a certified foodie, but I do love good food!
